Robert L. Hudkins, 68, of Massillon, passed away Monday, December 19, 2016. Robert was born in Akron, Ohio on September 29, 1948. He was a member of the U.S. Navy and completed two tours in Vietnam during the War. During his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. After Robert’s military service, he worked in construction and then worked as a truck driver for Barkett Fruit Company.

At the time of his death, Robert had celebrated 22 years of sobriety. This was an accomplishment, that he was not only proud of, but which he used to share his stories and struggles with countless individuals that he sponsored through Alcoholics Anonymous. He also hosted a H.A.L.T. group, based in New Philadelphia, Ohio, to support individuals dealing with dependencies.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Lynwood and Leona Hudkins and his brothers, Warren and Allen. He is survived, and will be deeply missed, by his loving wife of 44 years, Sandra Hudkins; son, Troy (Lauren); daughter, Dawn (Jose); brother, Gary (Holly); uncle, Wayne (Jane); beloved grandchildren, Alexis, Ashley, Aumonnie and Alaina (his "A" team); R.J., who he loved as his own grandchild.; great-grandchild, Brandon; and very special friends, Jeff Orr and Scott Clay.

Robert had a true love for each and every minute he was able to spend with family and friends. His eyes sparkled and, quite often, you could catch tears of happiness shining in his eyes when watching over his loved ones. He had an immense passion for fishing and hunting and enjoyed professional sports teams, especially, the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Family and friends may call Thursday, December 29, 2016, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 E. Cherry St. (Rt. 93) Canal Fulton, with a casual memorial service to follow at 7 p.m.
