Earnest Ayres of Canal Fulton, Ohio passed away quietly at home on January 21, 2019. Born in Erwin, West Virginia to the late Virgil O. & Ethel M. (Lambert) Ayers; he had spent his adult life in Northeast Ohio. He had served 4 years in the US Air Force during the Korean War until his honorable discharge in 1956. He retired from Montgomery Ward as an Electronic Technician in 1991. He was a member of St John’s Lutheran Church, Canal Fulton, OH and dear friend to Trinity Lutheran Church in Clinton, OH.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Helen (Poggenburg) Ayres. From their marriage they had 5 children; Elizabeth “Liz” (Tim) Ayres Thoren of Racine, OH; Margaret (Steve) Porter of Canal Fulton, OH; Barbara (Randy) Rohr of Canal Fulton, OH; Robert (Susan) Ayres of Laurens, SC and Ann (Carlton) Dingler of Canal Fulton, OH; 13 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren with 2 more expected in May 2019 and several furbearing grandkids. He is also survived by his brother, Arthur “Paul” (Rosetta) Ayers of Canal Fulton, OH & sister, Lois (Noel “Buddy”) Boggs of Madison, OH; his many beloved nieces/nephews and “greats”. He was proceeded in death by his sister and brother in law Lucille (Arless “Bud”) Loughry of Kingwood, WV.
Mr. Ayres will be honored by his family in a memorial service at a later date with interment at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, OH. The Ayres family would like to thank the loving care they received from Summa Hospice, Pastor Julie Thoms & Pastor Cindy Striker. Per his request, there will be no calling hours or visitation.
