George "Eddie" Edward Stanley
1949 - 2018
Eddie Stanley, 68, of Akron, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on the evening of Monday, August 6th, 2018.
Eddie was born September 27, 1949 in California; son of the late Violet (Fair) Stanley and Charles Allen Stanley. He was a 1967 graduate of Northwest High School in Canal Fulton.
Eddie’s career started in the logging business at Stanley and Miller, moved to sandblasting at Ohio Metalizing, continued at Newsome and Work in Kenmore, American Metalizing in Akron and ended at Milestone Services Corp, where he retired. Milestone was his crowning achievement, a company he proudly owned and built into a success.
While he endeavored to work hard, he also pursued his passion for drag racing. He loved racing cars and always had a "need for speed." In high school his nickname was "Fat Cat" which was bestowed on one of his favorite cars, "Fat Cat’s Rat."
Eddie adored, and in turn was adored by, his family and friends. They described him as the eternal class clown, a perfectionist, and a man of principles. He could be blunt, and if he had an opinion, no one could change his mind. He never gave up on anyone he loved. All who knew Eddie recognized his generosity, and most were touched by it. He had a big laugh, a big smile, but most of all, a big heart. Sadly on Monday, Eddie’s big heart finally gave out. Losing Eddie is difficult; remembering him will be easy.
Eddie is survived by his wife of 26 years, Gail Krueger; his daughter Christina Stanley-Webb (Matt) and grandson Palin of Sandwich, England; his son Charles Stanley (Elizabeth) and grandson Fletcher of Houston, Texas; his adopted daughter Trisha Pierce; his brothers Charles Allen Stanley (Lynn), Richard Stanley (Rosemary), and sister Wanda Law; his nieces Heather, Debbie, Katie, and Laurie; his nephews Brian, Kenny, and Steve; and his many friends.
Friends and family may gather at Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 Cherry St. E. (Rt. 93) Canal Fulton, on Friday, August 10th for Calling Hours from 4pm to 7pm, followed by a service at 7pm to honor Eddie. There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, August 18th, 3pm at 700 Moody Street, Akron, 44305, Eddie’s final party.
