James K. Phares, 92 of New Franklin, passed away Saturday, March 25, 2017 at his home. Born in Westernport, Maryland to the late Dewey Sr. and Cora Phares, he grew up in Elkins, WV. and graduate from Davis Elkins College in 1957 with a degree in Electronic Engineering. James was a proud U.S. Navy veteran serving during WWII on the USS Pillsbury where his unit captured the Germany U-boat 505. James worked for the WV State Police as an electronics engineer and retired from Goodyear Aerospace in 1989 after 32 years of service. He was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, a private pilot and ham radio operator W8YDN.
In addition to his parents his is preceded in death by wife, Lorna Jean Phares, and brother Dewey Phares Jr. James is survived by his son, Michael (Denise) Phares; sisters-in-law, Carol Phares, Collene (Gibson) (Jones) Griffin, Lois (Gibson) Hamm; seven nieces and one nephew.
Funeral Services will be held WEDNESDAY, 11am, at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 E. Cherry St. (Rt. 93) Canal Fulton. Interment at Jerusalem Cemetery, Malaga, OH. Calling Hours Tuesday, 5pm to 8pm and one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
