John M. Hodgson, 76 of Canal Fulton, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2018. Born in Akron to the late John and Catherine Hodgson, he had been a Green/Canal Fulton area resident all of his life retiring from Newsome and Work Metallizing Co. John was a proud Navy veteran, a member of the Portage Lakes Eagles 2736, Clinton Masonic Lodge #47 and formerly Elliot Lodge #514 of Canal Fulton. He enjoyed drag racing, his Corvette (which now resides in a car museum in New York) and his cat Charlie.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Nancy (Sweet) Hodgson; brother, Harvey; cousin, Norma Hershberger; nephews, Daniel Sweet and Howie Grable; brothers-in-law, Howard Grable and Gordon Sweet; and Mike Sickman. John is survived by his children, John D. (Cathy) Hodgson, Stacey Depp and Angela Hodgson; grandchildren, Allison, Ethan, Andrew, Michaela, Merritt Jr., Brendan, Madison, Brockton, Mason, Madden; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, David Hodgson; sisters-in-law Sylvia Grable, Tricia (Niles) Michaels, Carol (Harry) Rhodes, Jo (Jake) Jacobs; brother-in-law, Dave (Linda) Sweet; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services, MONDAY, 11am at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 E. Cherry St. (Rt. 93) Canal Fulton, Al Dangelo, officiating. Burial at Canal Fulton Cemetery with military honors conducted by Canal Fulton VFW #9795. Calling Hours Sunday, 1pm to 4pm. In lieu of flowers memorials in John's name can be made to the American Cancer Society.
