Lawrence Phillip McCartney, 82 of Barberton, passed away Sunday, September 16, 2018. Larry was born on March 23, 1936 in San Antonio, Texas to James and Evelyn Hollingood, and was adopted by Hugh and Inez McCartney on February 10, 1945. Larry was a graduate of Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas and also attended the University of Akron. He was a teacher for more than 30 years, retiring from Coventry Schools in 1986. He was a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous since January 4, 1988.
Preceded in death by both sets of parents as well as three brothers, Ralph, Luther, and Jack; He is survived by his wife Karen; two daughters, Anne Howe and Amy Hume; grandchildren, Zachary, Theodore, Chandler, Gino and Bailey; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Jr. and Izabell; as well as nieces and nephews.
Friends may call WEDNESDAY, 5pm to 7pm at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 Cherry St. East, (Rt. 93) Canal Fulton. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Foundation, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
