Thomas M. Lavery passed away Friday, May 24, 2019. He was a life long resident of Akron where he graduated from Kenmore High School and enlisted in the US Navy in 1971. Thomas enjoyed being the life of the party and playing pranks and telling jokes. He enjoyed his visits from his grandkids, and filling them up on candy whenever they came over. He was a sports fan since childhood playing CYO football with his brothers and cousins and appearing briefly with them in the movie " The Akron Holy War". He enjoyed watching the Browns on Sundays (yelling at the TV), he loved to watch the history channel, read, and collecting books, newspapers, and magazines as he would say "These might be worth money one day". Thomas was preceeded in death by his parents, Delores and James Lavery; brothers, Kevin and Vincent Lavery; brother in law, Joe Burns and niece, Stephanie Dsilva. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Debbie (Racin) Lavery; daughter, Rachael (Mark) Perrin; son, Matthew Lavery; grandchildren, Brady, Brooke and Tucker; siblings, Michael (Betty) Lavery, Theresa (John) Naska, Patty Huwig, Wanda Burns; sister-in-law, Ruth Lavery, many nieces, nephews and friends. Special thank you to the nurses and aides at the Colony Healthcare Center memory care unit in Tallmadge. Funeral Services will be held SUNDAY, June 2, 2019, 3:00pm at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 Cherry St. E. (Rt 93) Canal Fulton and where friends may call from 1:00pm to 3:00pm before the service. Burial with military honors, MONDAY, June 3, 2019, 10:00am at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Please meet at the funeral home by 9:00am Monday. Reception to follow at Ohio Veteran's Memorial Park 8005 S. Cleveland Massillon Rd Clinton, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
