Alan E. Yingling surprised us by his passing just 5 short days after the loss of his beloved wife Janet. Married for 58 years Alan & Janet raised 3 children Ed, Tim & Suzanne. Additionally they have 3 Grandchildren, Grace, Thomas & Philip.

Alan was born in Massillon OH October 25th 1942. With the exception of his Army years of Service, (1964-1966) he was a lifelong resident of Stark County, Primarily Canal Fulton. Service had been a focal point of his life via his professional employment, Church involvement and Coaching activities. For 30 years he was in the maintenance “Gang” for Timken Roller Bearing where he serviced the machines.

As a young boy he mentioned “pitching in where he could” after the Church fire of 1947. Ironically in later years he was severely burned after helping clean up Church bingo papers that caught fire in the back of his truck.

His Coaching resume focused primarily on Softball and “Peanut” (Suzanne) the best athlete in the family. Between Mom & Dad they were blessed to coach her and additional young ladies, (you know who you are) at all levels. Alan loved watching “ball” at all ages. Another sport he enjoyed was playing cards of any kind. Though Euchre was the standard he loved the challenge of Hand-n-foot, Poker, Canasta and most recently 7’ns.

Finally, the other passion in his life was the farm he grew up on. In 1971 he had to option of buying it from his parents (Edwin & Myra) Where he continued the tradition of raising a family and farming. Beef, Hogs, Chickens & once upon a time Geese were some of the livestock he raised. Sweet corn, pumpkins and other “produce” rounded out his primary working life after retiring from Timken. As most of you probably know, Old Farmers never actually retire, they just do what he did.

Alan was preceded in death by: Parents Edwin & Myra (Tabellion) Yingling, Wife Janet, Sisters Joyce Hoffee & Ruth Yingling, Brothers Ramon Yingling & Dennis Yingling Sister-In-Law Pam (Oser) Yingling & Brother-in-Law Robert Muckley. Survivors include his children Ed (Joy), Tim (Maureen) and Suzanne (Mike); his brothers Joe & Louie (Barb), Sisters Verla (Larry) Lorenz, & Dawn Muckley. Sisters in-laws Barb & Jackie, Brother-in Law Bob Hoffee. Grandchildren include Grace, Thomas and Philip; many nieces and nephews , many cousins, and many friends he considered family.

Visitation will be held SUNDAY, August, 2, 2026 1:00pm to 5:00pm at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 Cherry St E (Rt. 93) Canal Fulton.

Mass of Christian Burial MONDAY, 10:00am at Saints Philip and James Catholic Church, 412 N. High St, Canal Fulton with Fr. John Sheridan presiding. A luncheon will immediately follow the mass in the church social hall. After the luncheon a procession will form to take Janet and Alan to their final resting place together at Sunset Hills Burial Park.

In lieu of flowers Janet (that’s her department) requested donations to Luke 19 and Saint Philip and James Capital Campaign.
