Carol Jean Downey, 72 of Canal Fulton, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2015. Born on August 21, 1943 in Texarkana, Texas to the late Robert and Elizabeth Hamlin, she had been a resident of Canal Fulton since 1969. Carol attended the University of Akron and was a Northwest school bus driver for 32 years. She was a member of City of Flags, the Sweet Adelines for more than 25 years and St. John Lutheran Church in Canal Fulton. Carol is survived by her husband of 53 years Phillip Warren Downey; sons Phillip Warren II (Elizabeth), Brent Robert (David William); former daughter-in-law Deborah ; granddaughter Victoria Margaret; sister Patricia Smith; brothers Robert Hamlin, Michael (Diane) Hamlin and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held WEDNESDAY, September 30, 2015, 1:00pm at St. John Lutheran Church, 336 W. Market St., Canal Fulton, Pastor Jeff Goggins, officiating. Burial at Crown Hill Memorial Park, Twinsburg. Calling Hours Tuesday, 4pm to 7pm at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 E. Cherry St. (Rt. 93) Canal Fulton and also on Wednesday 12 Noon until time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials are requested in Carol's name to St. John Lutheran Church, Canal Fulton.
