Darrell Dean Dawson, age 82, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2025, at Akron City Hospital. Born on October 30, 1943, Darrell lived a life defined by love, service, laughter, and unwavering devotion to his family.

Darrell was the beloved husband of the love of his life, Joyce Dawson, with whom he shared a lifetime of memories. He was a proud and devoted father to his sons, Rich (Donna), David (Danielle), and Lee (Xiaorong). His greatest joy came from being Grandpa to his cherished grandchildren: Caroline (Dennis) Howell, Kylie, David, Bridget, Cassie, Connor, and Edmond, and great-grandfather to Addy, Ellie, Caleb, Hudson, and Lennon. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will miss him deeply.

Darrell proudly served his country in the United States Air Force before dedicating his career to public service with the Akron Police Department, from which he retired after many years of faithful service. A diehard Cleveland Browns fan, Darrell rarely missed a game and never missed an opportunity to share his opinions-especially during football season.

Above all else, Darrell was a family man. Nothing meant more to him than being surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He had an infectious smile, a wonderful sense of humor, and a loving heart that made everyone feel welcome. His presence filled a room, and his kindness left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the ICU staff and physicians at Summa Akron City Hospital for their compassionate care, with special thanks to Nurse James for his kindness and dedication.

Darrell’s legacy of love, service, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.

Visitation will be held SATURDAY, January 3, 2026, 11:00am to 1:00pm at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 Cherry St. E. (Rt. 93) Canal Fulton. A memorial service will immediately follow at 1:00pm. Private burial with military honors at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. The family welcomes anyone to dress in their favorite Cleveland Browns gear.
