June 17, 1937 – January 29, 2024
Donald Clyde MacDonald Jr, 86 of Canal Fulton, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2024 with his loving wife at his side after a long battle. Born in Fairlawn to Donald Sr. and Lucille MacDonald, Don grew up with a love of horses. When his family moved to Ghent, he enjoyed caring for horses at a nearby horse barn, where he kept his personal horse, Nod. He also enjoyed taking part in the Plug Derby. He attended Bath Elementary and Revere High School before enlisting in the US Navy in 1954. He was aboard the USS Bennington Aircraft. He visited Japan as well as other locations and became a Chief Petty Officer before being honorably discharged. After his naval career ended, he held several positions before ultimately holding a career as a Metro bus driver. He met his wife Barbara, married her in 1960 and together they raised two children, Michele and Michael. Camping trips together were a favorite family past time. After their children were grown, Don and Barb enjoyed traveling, riding trains, helping on the Polar Express and spending time with their family. They truly enjoyed their 63 years together and accomplished all they desired. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Michele and his brother Hugh. Don is survived by wife Barbara; son Michael (Melissa) MacDonald; sister Christine (Fred) Tom; grandchildren Matthew MacDonald and Amanda (Sid) Smith, as well as many other family members.
