Donald J. Smith, an auto mechanic and life long resident of Manchester, Ohio died unexpectedly on Feb. 15, 2022. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy; children, Tim (Kim) Smith, Philip Smith, Vickie (Bradley) Sanson and Stephen Smith; stepchildren, Theresa Farr, Melinda Hopkins-Henline and Oliver A. Hopkins; grandchildren, Taylor Smith and Peyton Smith; numerous step grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, James (Nell) Smith and Richard (Cheryl) Smith. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, James Smith, Sr. and Betty Adamson and brothers, Robert and Michael Smith. Donald was born Oct. 30, 1943. He graduated from Manchester High School in 1962, where he was a student athlete playing baseball, football and basketball. He was inducted into the Manchester Hall of Fame in 1979. Because of his love for sports he spent many years coaching peewee football and baseball. He worked as an auto mechanic his entire adult life. He worked at many different dealerships through the years but retired from Spitzer Dodge in 2006. After retiring he spent his time working in his home garage and taking many camping trips with his wife and family. Visitation will be held SUNDAY, February 20, 2022, 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 Cherry St. E. (Rt. 93) Canal Fulton. A memorial service will immediately follow at 4pm.
