Dorothy Ann Gainey

Dorothy Ann Gainey passed away at home on June 25, 2026, at the age of 99.

As a registered nurse, she served others tirelessly, first in the surgery unit of Mercy Hospital, then in a physician's office in Canal Fulton, and, for many years, in programs for individuals with developmental disabilities.

Her kind spirit touched everyone she met. She cared deeply about her family, but also showed her concern for friends and neighbors with small gestures, such as a phone call, a greeting card or a homemade pie. She left the world a better place, having lived in it for almost 100 years.

Dorothy is survived by her husband of 76 years, Keith Gainey; her daughter, Mary Anne Gainey; her son Keith (Bettina) Gainey; her grandchildren, Christina (Jack) Keenan, Anna (Hutton) Chapman, and Clara (Ryan) Benson; and 5 great-grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to honor Dorothy's life on Tuesday, July 7, at 2:00 p.m. at the Canal Fulton Cemetery, Canal Fulton, Ohio (graveside service only).
