Dorothy Graves of Akron, Ohio went to be with the Lord on March 1, 2016. Born Dorothy Mae Hatfield on July 14, 1923 in Crystal Springs, Ohio. She attended Jackson Memorial High School in Jackson Township, Ohio. Dorothy was a tiny, gentle woman who delighted in learning new jokes and puns to share with her family and friends. Dorothy is survived by her brother Harry Hatfield; daughter Joyce (Darrell) Shirley of Willard, Ohio and daughter Janice (Hal) Brumbaugh of Houston, Texas; grandchildren Debra Shirley, Renee Lindsley, Louis (Toshiko) Lindsley, Eli Brumbaugh and Harriet Weeks; great grandchildren Louis, Brandon, Cierra, JaMell, and Anthony; and five great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents Charles A. and Louella Mae (Dennis) Hatfield; her former husband Donald Graves; brother Charles (Bud ) Hatfield; sister June Hatfield Robinson; half sisters Wilma Weidleman, Nellie Schwiger, and Aretta Zabadah; and grandson Ranger D. Nathan Shirley. Funeral Services will be held WEDNESDAY, March 9th, 2016, at 11:00 am at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home 624 Cherry St. East. (Rt. 93, Canal Fulton, OH 44614). Burial in Canal Fulton Cemetery. Friends and Family may call Wednesday from 10:00 am until time of the service. The family would like to thank the Manchester House for their dedication to Mom. In memory of Dorothy, the family requests that you tell a family member or friend a knock-knock joke or donations made be made in lieu of flowers to Howard University or the charity of your choice.
