Obituary

MANCHESTER---Ethel Oviatt Stokes, 88, passed away peacefully March 15, 2013. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; son Bill White; husband Charles Stokes; sisters Ruth (Steve) Shay and Norma (Ted) Waddington; and sister-in-law Mary Lu Piersol. She leaves daughter Janet White; step-children Ed (Lil) Stokes, Carol Sue (Bud) Dague, Beth (Jim) Gagnon and Curtis (Sherry) Stokes, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; granddaughter Angela Lawson and family; special nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law Vivian White and Winifred Stokes. Ethel appreciated her many friends--those from 20 years living in Kent and attending Kent State from kindergarten through college, and the rest from living in Manchester. She retired in 1983 after teaching kindergarten and 1st grade in Manchester Schools for 32 years, introducing more than 2400 children to school life. She enjoyed time spent with Coventry AARP and Kappa Kappa Iota, Delta Chapter. Ethel loved working in her yard, traveling, making quilts and blankets for Project Linus and spending cherished time with family and friends. At Ethel's request, there will be no services. Private burial at Manchester Cemetery. Memorials if desired can be made to Nolley Scholarship Fund, c/o E. Duve-MEA, Nolley Elementary, 6285 Renninger Rd, Akron, OH 44319.
