Frances Nuala
(Mccann) Filberg
June 30, 1937 – March 9, 2024
Frances Nuala Filberg, 86 of Canal Fulton, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 9, 2024. Born June 30, 1937 in Belfast, Northern Ireland to the late Alphonsus and Sophia McCann; Nuala moved from Belfast to Philadelphia, PA in 1954. She loved everything about the United States. In 1978, Nuala and her husband and family moved to Ohio. Nuala worked for Ohio Bell and retired after 27 years and was a member of the CWA. She was a member of SS Philip and James Catholic Church for 46 years, including the Altar and Rosary Society. She was a founding member of the Ulster Project in Massillon and was an Associate with the Sisters of Divine Providence. She was a volunteer at Mercy Medical Center.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Filberg Jr.; son, Christopher A. Filberg; brother, Anthony McCann and sister, Briege Johnston. Nuala is survived by her children, Frederick (Maureen) Filberg III, Mary Frances Compton and Andrew (Audra) Filberg; daughter-in-law, Carmel Filberg; grandchildren, Frederick IV, Gordon and Kathleen Filberg, Rory, Enya and Alanna Filberg, Connor, Caroline and Kendall Compton, Yusef, Andrew Jr. and Francis Filberg; brother, Sean McCann; sister, Maureen Oswald; sister-in-law, Barbara McCann; brother-in-law, Bro. Charles Filberg FSC and sister-in-law, Rosemary Hamm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held FRIDAY, March 15, 2024, 11:00am at SS Philip and James Catholic Church, 412 High St. NE, Canal Fulton, Fr. Thomas Cebula and Fr. Kevin McCaffrey concelebrants. Burial at SS Philip and James Cemetery. Visitation Thursday, 5pm to 8pm at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 Cherry St. E. (Rt. 93) Canal Fulton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Nuala's name are requested to SS Philip and James Catholic Church or Sisters of Divine Providence, 9000 Babcock Blvd, Allison Park, PA 15101.
To honor Nuala's Irish character, humor and spirit, please wear green to the calling hours and/or funeral.
