Obituary

Helen B. Buchanan, 96, passed away Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Chapel Hill Retirement Community in Canal Fulton. Born in Quaker City, OH, she had been an Akron area resident most of her life having worked as a bookeeper accountant for various companies. Helen was a member of the Firestone Park Presbyterian Church where she was a youth group leader. She was also an active member of the George Washington Chapter of the Daughters of the American Colonists (DAC) since 1956, the Akron Symphony Chorus, First Families of Ohio, Summit County Accounting Society, Granger Historical Society and played the organ for the South Arlington Methodist Church. Helen traveled extensively with Elderhostel, was involved with various bridge clubs, was an avid gardener, and enjoyed playing the piano and organ. She is survived by loving husband of 72 years John Buchanan; sons Richard (Jane) and Robert (Karen); daughter Carol (Jerry Sims) Buchanan; grandchildren Darrin, Deidre, Jeffrey and Douglas (Karen) Buchanan; granddaughter-in-law Carrie Buchanan; step-grandchildren Chylece (Jim) Head, and Greg Houck; great-grandchildren Dylanne, Camryn, Keenan, Devon and Claire Buchanan; step-great-grandchildren Chris and Stephanie Head; and sister-in-law Janet (Orrville) Reed. Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 8, 2012, 10:30 A.M. at Chapel Hill Retirement Community, 12200 Strausser St. NW, Canal Fulton, OH, Pastor Sandra Hutchinson officiating. Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Calling Hours ONE HOUR PRIOR to service time.
