James Allen Hipp Sr., 87 of Barberton, passed away Monday, September 14, 2026 after a long battle with COPD, Emphysema and many health issues.

He was born on October 12, 1939 to Robert Odell and Rose Hipp. He was one of three brothers where they were raised and he lived all of his life in Barberton.

Jim loved to fish and owned a few boats in his lifetime. He also loved to tinker with wood and make small scroll pictures in 3-D. He was always fiddling around in his workshop making things from small wooden animals to figurines. He was also a locksmith and used to make different kinds of keys for everything.

Jim was in the US Navy as a Boiler Operator from Dec. 1958 to Nov. 1962. When getting out of the Navy, he got a job at Barberton Citizen’s Hospital where he worked for 30 years as a boiler operator.

He retired at the age of 62 relaxing and enjoying his retirement with family and friends.

Jim loved all his grandchildren and family but mostly liked telling us all what to do.

Him is preceded in death by his late wife Helen Hipp; parents Robert and Rose Hipp; brothers, Robert Hipp Jr, Jerry Hipp and stepson, Robert Wynes Jr.

He leaves behind son, James Hipp Jr. of Akron; stepson, William N. Dane (Coletta) of Canal Fulton; stepdaughter, Debra Thornburg (Mike) of Akron; stepdaughters, Cheryl Young (Don) of Canal Fulton; grandchildren, Tiffany, Jamie, Lindsay, Christoper, Jason Sr., Patrick, Alyssa, Megan, Andrew Melissa and Robert Lee Jr.; many great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces.

Funeral Services will be held MONDAY, September 21, 2026, 12:00pm (NOON) at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 Cherry St. E. (Rt. 93) Canal Fulton. Burial at Lakewood Cemetery. Visitation ONE HOUR PRIOR to service time at the funeral home.
