IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Russell
Schuckert
October 17, 1945 – January 29, 2025
James R. Schuckert, 79 of Canal Fulton, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2025. When you say, "self-made man", you think of Jim Schuckert. Hard work, dedication, boldness, and humor all helped Jim build and create a life that defied the odds. From sheet metal work and learning the heating and cooling trade to pool hustling to make money for household "extras", Jim always found a way to provide for his family of 5, and somehow stayed grounded and optimistic through it all.
In 1991 Jim started Pride Heating and Cooling which he owned and operator for many years with his son Jimmy. He chose the name Pride for many reasons – first and foremost to express the pride he felt as an American, also because he wanted himself and his team to feel proud of the work they do, and, like a "pride of lions", he wanted to evoke the sense of loyalty and community which that represents.
Jim attended Living Water Church in Massillon and was a faithful supporter of his community, including many years with the Northwest Touchdown Club (home game fireworks!). Jim was known for his larger-than-life personality, booming voice, positive outlook, and even extravagant 4th of July firework shows.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Jack and Jay Schuckert and sister, Joanne Blackwood. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Carol (Midcap) Schuckert; children, Tanya (Rick) Cowx, Tina (Greg) DeMatteis and James (Christina) Schuckert II, grandchildren Dakota, Savannah, Kyler, Nicholas, and Amber, 4 great-grandchildren, Ava, Easton, Lydia and Evelyn. He was a grandfather who somehow made each grandkid feel like they were his favorite. And seeing him with the little great-grandkids is a sweet memory for the family. He is also survived by siblings, Beverly (Jack), Carl (Joyce), Paul (Betty) and Linda, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held SATURDAY, February 15, 2025, 1:00pm at Living Water Church, 1135 Lincoln Way E, Massillon. We will have visitation for 1 hour, then a short service at 2:00pm.
