JERRY "DA" LEWIS

"Find strength and courage in patience... through adversity... and from the starlight within." This our dear "Da," Jerry Lewis, did until the hour his maker took him in his arms at age 78, on Friday, June 26, 2015 surrounded by his family. Jerry was born October 4, 1936 in Akron and was a graduate of South High School. He served his country for three years in the Korean War. He retired as a Captain, after more than 30 years, from the Summit County Sheriff's Department and attended the FBI Academy in Quantico Virginia. He was a Mason of the Portage Lakes Chapter, member of the F.O.P. #139, and a proud member of retired sheriff's "Liars Club." Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Catherine Lewis and wife of 39 years, Patricia Lewis; he is survived by children James Lewis, Kim Mitchell (Jamie), Traci Craig (David); grandchildren Cory, MacKenzie, Alexandra, Abigail, Alaina, and Aaleyah; brothers Glenn (Sandy), Lee (Millie), Tom (Debbie); many nieces and nephews; trusted and devoted lifelong friends. The family wishes to thank Dr. Freeland Oliverio for his honesty, respect, and care for Da during his courageous battle with cancer. Funeral Services THURSDAY, July 2, 2015, 1 p.m. at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 E. Cherry Street (Rt. 93, Canal Fulton) with Reverend Glenn George officiating and Honorary Guard Service and where friends may call THURSDAY 11:00-1:00 prior to Services. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations at Chase Bank in New Franklin, 5638 Manchester Road, in Jerry Lewis' name or directly to Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses.
