Joanne Cherry, 88 of New Franklin, passed away Monday, January 9, 2023. She was born June 5, 1934 to the late Willard and Edna (Ball) Grove and was a lifelong New Franklin resident. She was a 1956 graduate of the Ohio State University and a member of the Delta Zeta sorority. Joanne was a teacher for the Akron Public Schools and retired after 30 years of service. She was devoted to the children attending her classes and an advocate for her student's wellbeing, both in and out of school. She enjoyed collecting children's books, quilting, horseback riding, and loved all animals. Joanne is survived by her son, Eric (Barb) Havenhill; grandsons, Jonathan (Liz) and Kyle Havenhill; and brother, Marvin (Nancy) Grove and was aunt to Holly (Darren) Alber and Gary (Crystal) Grove. A private interment will be held February 13 at the Manchester Cemetery. Friends and family of Joanne are invited to join in a Celebration of Life dinner on February 13 at Cherry Blossom Banquet Hall, 735 Cherry St East, Canal Fulton Ohio, from 5 to 9 pm.
