Obituary

John B. Buchanan, 99, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2015.

Born on November 7, 1915 in Armadale, West Lothian, Scotland to Daniel and Susan (Brownlee) Buchanan he came to the U.S. with his parents and 4 siblings in 1923. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen, his parents, and by brothers, Bill, Jim, Archie and brother-in-law Orville Reed. Before graduating from St. Mary's Pennsylvania High School he served in the CCC. He attended Hammel Business College in Akron, Ohio and married his wife of 72 years, Helen B. Smith on October 19, 1940. He served in the U.S. Navy and worked for Hudson Motor Company, and subsequently, Ford Motor Company as a service representative for over 30 years. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite, Grotto and a member of the Firestone Park Presbyterian Church. He and Helen traveled extensively with Elderhostel and enjoyed golfing and playing bridge. For the past 13 years he resided at Kroft Commons retirement community in Canal Fulton, Ohio.

He is survived by his sister, Janet Reed, sons Richard (Jane) and Robert (Karen) and daughter Carol (Jerry Sims); grandchildren, Darrin, Deidre, Jeffrey and Douglas (Karen) Buchanan; step-grandchildren, Chylece (Jim) Head, and Greg Houck; great-grandchildren, Dylanne, Camryn, Keenan, Devon and Claire Buchanan; step great-grandchildren, Chris and Stephanie Head and Steven Houck.

Funeral Services will be held THURSDAY, August 27, 2015, 10:30am at Chapel Hill Community, 12200 Strausser St. NW, Canal Fulton, Rev. Sandra Hutchinson, officiating, where friends may call ONE HOUR PRIOR to service time. Burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
