John "Jack" Allen Hathaway - Age 79, died on Wednesday, Oct. 30th, 2013 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley in 2012 and is survived by his son and daughter-in-law John A. and Beverly Hathaway of Virginia Beach, Virginia; son Bill Hathaway of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio and daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Doug Dearth of Los Angeles, California. Jack had 4 grandchildren, Sean Hathaway, Jay Hathaway, Michael Hathaway, Meredith Hathaway and 3 great grandchildren. Jack retired from Goodyear after 42 years of service. His work in implementing Goodyear's Total Quality Culture took him on assignments throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia to Goodyear domestic and foreign locations, and to other U.S. companies where Goodyear worked to develop joint ventures and partnerships with suppliers and customers. Jack was honored in 1981 as the corporate staff winner of the Goodyear Spirit Award. He often reminisced with great joy of the many wonderful adventures he had while working for Goodyear. The family would like to thank Nancy and Dick Prather of Akron, Ohio for their love and never ending support. The family would also like to thank Colleen, Sharleen and the staff of Senior Independence, as well as, the staff at Chapel Hill Retirement Community (where Jack was king of the dance floor) for their compassionate care and friendship. Lastly, the family would like to thank Jack's lifelong friends Terry Deems, Hal Pulcini, Dave Gowans and Mike Burns affectionately dubbed the "Goodyear Gang". Their visits always brought joy, laughter and fabulous story telling. A special thank you to Terry for his bi-weekly cream stick deliveries. If you had the pleasure of meeting Jack once, you were guaranteed a friend for life. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, November 7, 2013, 7pm at Chapel Hill Retirement Community 122000 Strausser St. Canal Fulton, Ohio 44614, and where friends may call Thursday 6pm until time of service. Graveside Service Friday, 10am at Hillside Memorial Park.
