John was a proud graduate of Canton South High School. He went on to earn his Bachelor’s degrees in Business and Education from Malone University and later obtained his Master’s degree in Administration from the University of Akron—foundations that supported his lifelong commitment to education and leadership.

John shared 60 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Judy Ley Hexamer. Together they built a strong and loving family. He is survived by his daughter, Vicki (Mike) Crable; his son, Kurt Hexamer; his grandson, Elliot Adkins and his fiancée, Samantha; his sister, Virginia Johnson; his brothers, Mike (Martie) Hexamer and Ray (Shannon) Hexamer; his brother-in-law, Ron (Lois) Reed; his sister-in-law, Darlene Hampton; and many cherished nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Virginia Hexamer; his son, Brian Neil Hexamer; his brother, Ted Hexamer; and his brothers-in-law, Ed Johnson, John (Jill) Ley, and Ron Hampton.

John’s 52-year tenure with Northwest Local School District stands as a testament to his passion for education and his unwavering commitment to shaping young lives. Beginning his career as a teacher, he went on to serve as a respected administrator and later as a dedicated board member. He also spent many decades teaching driver’s education, impacting countless students with his patience and guidance.

Beyond his work in education, John was deeply involved in his community. He served for multiple decades as a board member and president of SFCU and was a longtime member of the Canal Fulton Rotary. He also owned and operated Rack Powder Coating Services in Canal Fulton for over 15 years.

John found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved boating in Tennessee, taking motorcycle rides with friends, and playing handball. Above all, he treasured time spent with family and friends.

John will be remembered for his steady presence, his dedication to others, and the lasting impact he made on his community and the many lives he touched.
