John C. Schilling, 77, of New Franklin passed away after a hard fought battle with prostate cancer on July 23, 2021. John was born in Green, Ohio on January 26, 1944. He was a resident of Clinton most of his life. After graduating from Northwest High School in 1962, he served in the U.S. Army as a medic stationed in Germany. John enjoyed farming as a life-long endeavor and hobby. He retired after 30 years of service with Albrecht Grocery. In keeping with his love of the outdoors, John then worked for 9 more years at Glenmoor Country Club on the grounds crew. Preceding him in death were his parents, Peter and Anna Schilling, and brothers Peter, Richard, and Kenneth. John is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Nancy (Wallis) Schilling, children John (Holly) Schilling, Diane Freeh, Dan Schilling, and cherished grandchildren Brandon, Ben, Jacob, Garrett, Allison, and Sam. He is also survived by brother Robert (Gale) Schilling, sisters Shirley Fites, and Elizabeth Swisher, in-laws Linda (Peter) Schilling, Roger and Alice Hower, Richard and Pat Wallis, Charlie Smith, Carol Markle, lifelong friend Larry (Becki) Kratzer, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family. A very special thanks to Dr. Laurie Matt-Amaral for her compassionate care and treatment that allowed dad the opportunity to hop on a tractor and farm as he loved a few more times this summer. Funeral Services will be held TUESDAY, July 27, 2021, 11:00am, at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 Cherry St. E. (Rt. 93) Canal Fulton. Burial at Manchester Cemetery. Calling Hours Monday, 6pm to 8pm and also one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
