Joseph Ernest Paddock, Jr., 87, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, died Thursday, June 14, 2012 in Canal Fulton, Ohio. Born January 30, 1925 in Geneva, Ohio, Joe was the son of Reverend Joseph Ernest Paddock and Myrtle Rowe Paddock and after the loss of his own father, was blessed to have a second father, Ray G. Harrison. Nicknamed "Skid", Joe grew up in Dover, graduated from Dover High School in 1945 and attended The Ohio State University. Joe was an avid sports enthusiast who golfed, played tennis and swam. As a boy he built and raced his car in the Akron Soap Box Derby. He was a fan of the Cleveland Indians, Browns and Cavaliers whether they won or lost. A long time employee of Famous Supply Company in both Fremont and Akron, Ohio. Joe made many friends during his years of selling throughout Ohio. A devoted member of Grace United Church of Christ in Massillon, Joe served on the Consistory and the Church Growth Committee. While living in Tiffin, Ohio (1958-1974) Joe was an active member of Trinity United Church of Christ. He was a volunteer at Massillon Community Hospital for many years. Joe is survived by the love of his life, Virginia E. Paddock, his wife of 63 years whom he married on November 27, 1949 in Dover. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Amy J. Boster (Allan E. Boster) of Seville, Ohio; Margo R. Paddock (W. Paul Osborne) Woodinville, Washington and son, Mark J. Paddock of Hubbard, Ohio. Surviving are eight grandchildren, Reid E. Boster, Alexandra H. Boster, Rachel A. Boster, Abigail R. Osborne, Caroline R. Osborne, Ian N. Paddock, Sophie R. Paddock, Seth N. Paddock and one great granddaughter, Rilee L. Paddock. Joseph was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Rowe Paddock and Richard Elden Paddock. His surviving brother James W. Paddock (Virginia) lives in Columbus, Ohio. His sister-in-law Dorothy Cramer Randles resides in Walnut Creek, Ohio. In addition there are eight surviving nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will be MONDAY, 1 p.m. at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 E. Cherry St. (Rt. 93, Canal Fulton) with Rev. Barry Stirbens officiating. Friends may call SUNDAY from 2-5 p.m. at the funeral home and Monday one hour prior to services. Burial Grandview Union Cemetery, Strasburg.
