Obituary

Judith "Judy" A. Luna, 79, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

To know Judy was to love her, and to know her was to be loved by her. Whenever you visited “Ma,” you were greeted with a joyful “Hey babe!” and a loving kiss on the cheek. She had a remarkable gift for making everyone around her feel comfortable, cared for, well-fed, and deeply loved.

Judy was the embodiment of selflessness, always placing the needs of others before her own. She was genuine, compassionate, and endlessly kind. Her warmth and grace touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Family was the center of Judy’s world. She had a special way of making those she loved feel cherished through the traditions she created and the care she poured into every holiday gathering. From preparing elaborate meals and baking favorite treats to crafting homemade Christmas ornaments with her grandchildren, she created memories that will be treasured for generations. Judy expressed her love through encouraging words, warm embraces, and an unwavering devotion to caring for others.

Judy worked at the Broadview Developmental Center, caring for individuals with developmental disabilities where she met the love of her life, Dino. She also dedicated a number of years working for Children Services in the recreation department at Andersen Village. Her compassion for the children in her care extended far beyond her work. She often organized special treats, celebrations, and gatherings, always making sure the children felt included, cared for, and deeply loved.

In 1970, Judy married Bernardino “Dino” Luna, beginning a beautiful partnership built on love, faith, and devotion. Together they shared almost 56 years of marriage. They later welcomed their beloved daughter, Margaret, whom they raised with immense pride and unconditional love.

Judy often spoke fondly of the memories she shared with her sister, Mary, and her brother, Lawrence, both of whom she loved deeply. She was preceded in death by her mother and father. Judy greatly admired her mother, Margaret Brumbaugh whose strength, compassion, and dedication to others served as a lifelong inspiration. There is comfort in knowing Judy is now reunited with her mother that she loved so dearly.

Judy is survived by her devoted husband, Bernardino “Dino” Luna; her loving daughter, Margaret Luna Rhodes; her sister, Mary (Alfred); her brother, Lawrence Brumbaugh; her grandsons, Jordan (Brooke) Rhodes and Stephen Schaeffer; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Braxton Rhodes and Sutton Rhodes; many nieces and nephews and extended family.

Judy was truly one of a kind—a woman whose kindness, generosity, and gentle spirit left an enduring mark on everyone she met. A woman whose goodness seemed touched by the hands of God Himself. Her legacy of love will continue to live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her. Though she will be deeply missed, the memories she created and the love she shared will remain forever. We find comfort in knowing that Heaven surely welcomed Judy with open arms and that she is now at peace, reunited with those she loved so dearly.

It was important to Judy and the family to extend heartfelt gratitude to the staff at US Renal Care on Market Street in Akron for their care and compassion. She spoke highly of her "dialysis girls." The kindness and companionship she experienced there brought her great joy.

In accordance with Judy’s wishes, as well as those of her family, we would also like to acknowledge the incredible staff and extend our gratitude to Akron Summa Hospital Palliative Care Unit and Hospice Team. Each and every one of you are incredibly special.
