Lawrence D. Shaffer, 87, passed away Saturday, October 12, 2013. Born in Akron he had been an area resident his entire life having retired from Firestone after 38 years of service. Lawrence was a member of Grace Bible Church (formerly Manchester Trinity Chapel) where he served as custodian, deacon, usher and elder for many years. Lawrence was a proud Army veteran having served during WWII. Preceded in death by his wife Dorothy; sister Dorothy Hudson; brother Ray Shaffer and son-in-law Bill Pickrell; Survivors include his daughter Susan; sons Larry (Nita) and Roger (Darlene); 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and sister-in-law Helen Shaffer. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, October 16, 2013, 1pm, at Grace Bible Church 5781 Manchester Rd., Akron, OH 44319, Pastor Joel Stroup officiating. Burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Calling Hours ONE HOUR PRIOR to service at the church.
