Obituary

Leo A. "Bud" Mock, born May 25, 1923 to the late Florence (McMonagal) and Michael B. Mock, left us on June 29, 2015, our 69th wedding anniversary.

He was born and raised in Akron, OH, graduated from Hower Trade School, and worked at Goodyear Aerospace until he was drafted into the Army Air Corps.

During WWII he served in the Mediterranean Theater, acting as a B-24 mechanic in Italy. Upon discharge, Bud returned to work at Goodyear Aerospace until his retirement in 1983 after 42 years, ending his career as a machinist supervisor in the Wheel and Brake Division. Weekends and vacations were spent camping and boating at East Harbor with family and friends. Retirement brought more fun years of boating and fishing on the Great Lakes.

Bud joined the MAPS Air Museum in North Canton in the 1990s as a dedicated volunteer. He was especially proud to have helped restore the Martin B-26 Marauder and bring the "Spirit of Akron" blimp gondola, as well as the Corsair cockpit mock-up, to the museum.

In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by son Ernest, sisters Rita Tapp, Eleanor Markel and Betty Morrison, and brothers Robert, Dr. Michael and infant twins.

He is survived by his wife Helen (Stauffer) of 69 years, sons Michael of New Mexico and James of California, daughter Kathy of Ohio, sisters Emily (Douglas) Sheets of Wisconsin, Florence (William) Goad of W. Virginia and Carolyn Ferguson of Australia, sisters-in-law Kathryn (Dr. Michael) Mock and Donna (Robert) Stauffer, many nieces and nephews, and adoring granddog Lis'ka.

Anyone who knew Bud knew him as a loving, happy, kind and funny husband, father and friend.

A military ceremony will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman at 11:30 a.m. on July 17, 2015 with Chaplain Norman Brunelle officiating. Please arrive at cemetery entrance by 11:15am. Light refreshments will be offered in the large gazebo at Muhlhauser Park, 853 Locust St. S in Canal Fulton at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to MAPS, 2260 International Parkway, N. Canton, OH 44720, or to an animal welfare group of your choice.

The family wishes to thank AseraCare Hospice for their special care and the residents and staff of Jackson Ridge Rehab.
