IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Leona Katherine
(Bellman) Mattie
March 26, 1924 – January 29, 2017
Heaven was graced with another angel in the early morning of Sunday, January 29th, 2017 when Leona Katherine Mattie (Bellman), 92, returned to the loving arms of her husband of 56 years, Howard Mattie. Also there to welcome her are her parents, many siblings, an endless buffet of lobster along with a set of car keys so that she could reclaim her title of "Go-Go Granny". Leona was born on March 26th, 1924 in Cambria County, Pennsylvania. She lived most of her life in Akron, Ohio and was kindly regarded by all in the neighborhood. She loved dancing, baking, canning, spending time with family, a friendly game of poker, and YARD SALES - contributing to the neighborhood by having numerous yard sales for over 30 years, much to the delight of her neighbors! Her earthly presence may not be with us but her legacy will be forever engraved into all whose lives she touched. Among those left behind to share her legacy are her daughter, Rebecca Booth (Raleigh), sons, Jeffrey Mattie (Josephine), Kenneth Mattie (Brenda), and though not through blood but through love, Bob Myers; grandchildren Channon Booth (Ryan), April Winter (Brad), Kenny Mattie, Michelle Price (Warren), Jennifer Gerdts (Adam), Autumn Traylinek (Tim), Krystal Conley (Bobby), and Amber Mattie; great-grandchildren, Brennan, Heaven, Leana, Lauren, Dillon, Ella, Mirren, Audrey, Kinsley, Alyssa, "Ziggy", "J", & Oliver as well as numerous nieces & nephews. We would also like to thank the staff and residents at Hospitality House in Massillon for caring for our family matriarch during her last years. The kind stories you shared with us during our difficult time was an appreciated reminder of how special she was. God didn't promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, sun without rain, but he did promise strength for the day, comfort for the pain, and light for the way. If God brings you to it, he will bring you through it. Family and Friends are welcome to attend the visitation to be held at Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 Cherry St. E, Canal Fulton, OH 44614 on Wednesday, February 1st, 2017 from 2 to 4 pm with a private service to be held immediately after.
