With heavy hearts, we share that our beloved Wife, Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, Louise Edith Mauller, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2026.
She is now at peace. While the grief is deep, so is our gratitude for the life she lived and the love she gave.
January 6, 1951, the day Louise Edith Mauller entered this world was gentle—mild weather, quiet skies—almost as if nature itself knew it was welcoming one of the warmest souls it would ever hold.
Louise grew up in a small home with three sisters, in a time when life required grit and gratitude. An outhouse out back. Milk rationed carefully. Treats shared, not expected. Modest means, but rich in lessons—how to love, how to endure, and how to put family first.
She later met our dad, James, the love of her life. Together they married and began a journey shaped by service and sacrifice. As a military wife, she traveled, adapted, and supported—always steady, always strong. Eventually they returned home, where she became “Mom” for the first time… to son Jamie (Ryane) Mauller, and later to daughter Meredith (fiancé Kevin) Markus and son Noel (Bobbi) Mauller.
Growing up with Louise meant life was about learning, experiences, and understanding both the joy and sorrow that come with living fully. She taught us that family mattered most—and that showing up was everything.
Through tough economic times, she cooked her way through adversity at Lindsay’s Amber Restaurant, then Farmer Boy / Egg Castle, where her fluffy biscuits became legendary. People drove miles for her food—but really, they came for her. For the warmth she served alongside every plate.
Later, she found another way to gather people—becoming the Poker Queen of Akron, hosting poker games at the Springfield VFW. Once again, she created family—feeding bodies and souls alike. Her poker family was just that… family.
She endured tremendous loss—the deaths of her mother Dillie, her father Robert, her sister Barb Hurst, and her mother-in-law, whom she cared for during their challenges. Through it all, Louise modeled a life of putting others before herself. Always.
Her greatest pride was her family. She loved and celebrated her 9 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, marriages, milestones, and every moment that made her proud to be the matriarch of a family that continues to do good in this world.
Her grandchildren—Johnny (Clara) Markus, Madison (Nicholas) Liszka, Christian Markus, Bailey (Derek) Teeling, Mackenzie Mauller, Morgan (fiancé Alex) Mauller, Josie Mauller, Abby Mauller, and Wyatt Mauller and great-grandchildren Haleigh Markus, Noah Markus and Elliott Teeling—were her shining lights. Her joy. Her legacy walking around outside her own body.
Today, our hearts are broken—but they are also full. Full of gratitude for the time we had, the lessons she taught, and the love she gave so freely. Louise Edith Mauller was one of the greatest women we have ever known—an angel on earth.
Now she flies high, reunited with her dad, her mom, her sister Barb, and the loved ones she missed so deeply. We imagine her laughter, her smile, her familiar comfort—now watching over us.
“To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.”
