Obituary

Mary Ellen Adams, 92 passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on Monday, January 9, 2012. She was a loving Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother and Friend. She was born in Akron, Ohio to the late Ira and Stella Mathie and lived in this area most of her life. Mary Ellen was a member of the American Red Cross during WWII. She visited and gave comfort to our servicemen in Germany and France. She also loved to ski the Alps in Switzerland. She returned home from the war to marry our dad, John E. Adams, and raise 5 children. Mom, we all miss you so very much. You will always be in our hearts. Besides serving in the American Red Cross, Mom also loved to garden and she belonged to several area garden clubs including Garden Club of Ohio, Afternoon Garden Club, Avante Garde and the Canton Garden Center. She was a Master Level Flower Show Judge and she belonged to Garden Forum of Greater Akron. Mom loved to put together flower arrangements using bright red glads from her garden. She also loved cleomies. She always made sure to plant sweet corn and tomatoes in her vegetable garden and she always had a patch of mint to dry in the oven. Mom was also a fierce EUCHRE player and we always had a good game going after Sunday dinner. Before she raised her family. Mom worked for City Chevrolet and Goodyear Aerospace. She also loved to play the piano and accordion. She is survived by her children, Elizabeth(Tracy) Herbst, John E. Adams, Jr., Barbara (Courtney) McFarren, Kathryn (John) Brutcher and Thomas Adams. She also leaves her sister, Kathryn, two nieces, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family would also like to thank Manchester United Methodist Church and their Senior Ministry Program for their tender love and kindness to Mom. They welcomed her with open arms and she loved the social gathering. She never felt like a stranger. Pastor Dale Gharky always had a great sermon and a great smile. Thanks so much for your kindness. Mass of the Christian Burial THURSDAY, 10:30 a.m. at SS Philip & James Catholic Church, 412 N. High Street, Canal Fulton with Fr. Thomas Acker, S.J. officiating. Burial in the Church Cemetery. Friends may call THURSDAY from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m AT THE CHURCH.
