Randal William "Sam" Schaer

November 13, 1960- August 12, 2024

One of Bowdil's finest went home to his mom, dad, sister and brother on August 12, 2024. Known by most as the "Grave Digger" he owned and operated his family business of Schaer Excavating since 2001. Sam was a lifelong resident of North Lawrence (Bowdil), Ohio and attended Tuslaw High School, class of 1979. Sam was a beloved Husband, Father, Uncle, Friend and recently a Grandfather. He was a devoted Scout leader and Sports Coach, always having the mindset that "if he wasn't having fun, he wasn't going to do anymore". He was known for his ability to make up own words and nicknames like "eleventeen" or "gongulation". Most of all, he was someone that you could rely on, and he was a man of his word. Sam is preceded in death by his parents Robert E. Schaer (November 2009) Terese (Hock) (May 2010),his Sister JoAnne Ott (January 2010), his Brother Richard (Poon) Schaer (May 2020) and his Father-in-Law Melvin D. Brillhart (January 2016). Sam is survived by his high school sweetheart and Wife of 39 years, Debra J. (Weygandt) Schaer, his daughter, Maleri J. Schaer and his son's Samuel R. (Kerri A.) Schaer and Joseph R. Schaer, his Brother Robert E. (Vickie Tissot) Schaer Jr, his nieces Kylie (Justin) Shackle and Kelsie (Devin) Barker, his brother-in-law's Steve M. Ott and Daniel (Michelle) H. Weygandt, his mother-in-law Judith A. (Jenkins, Weygant) Brillhart and lastly his Granddaughter that brought him so much joy, Suzanna J. Schaer. Calling hours for Sam will be at Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 Cherry St E. Canal Fulton, Ohio 44614 on August 19, 2024, from 4 to 7pm. The funeral will be at Newman Creek Cemetery (Chapel of the Cross) in North Lawrence, OH on August 20, 2024, at 11am. Both are open to the public. The Tuslaw Community Organization with the Chapel of the Cross will be putting on a benefit on 7, September at the North Lawrence Fire House from 3 to 7pm.
