Ray Edward Nida passed away Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the age of 87. Ray was born in Killbuck, Ohio to Mamie Doyle Nida and Edgar Nida. He grew up in Johnson's Corners, Barberton. He attended Barberton High School. After high school he joined the Army where he was stationed in post-WWII occupied Japan. During his time in Japan he had the opportunity to climb to the top of Mt. Fujiyama. After his discharge from the Army he attended Kent State University where on a blind date he met the love of his life, Constance Colucci. They shared 53 years of marriage and raised a family in Cuyahoga Falls. He was employed by Terex. Upon retirement they both moved to Canal Fulton where he has lived since 1989.
Ray loved Canal Fulton and participated in many activities. He was an active member of the VFW #9795 and loved spending time sharing a cold one with his friends discussing current events and sports. Most recently he was honored to be the Grand Marshal in the Canal Fulton Memorial Day Parade last May. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Canal Fulton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife, Connie. He is survived by his brother Larry (Susie) Nida of DeBary, Florida, children Susan (Gary) Settlemire of Akron and Jane Dilley of Canal Fulton; his grandchildren Anthony (Jordan) Dannemiller of Lodi, Scott Cooper of Tampa, Florida, Alexandra Dannemiller of Canal Fulton, Olivia Cooper of Copley and Richard LaPilusa of Akron and an uncle Joe Doyle of Killbuck. He was much loved by his family. He also leaves his good and loyal neighbors, Ray and Dawn Durkee.

Funeral Services will be held THURSDAY, February 11, 2016, 1:00PM, at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 E. Cherry St. (Rt. 93) Canal Fulton. Burial at Canal Fulton Cemetery. Friends may call WEDNESDAY 5PM to 7PM and one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
