Obituary


Robert J. Kennedy, 81 of Canal Fulton, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2012. Robert was born in Akron, on January 15, 1931 to the late Joseph and Harriet (Phillips) Kennedy. He served in the US Army doing the Korea War, in which he was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a member of DAV and the American Legion #221, Massillon. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Robert, Jr.; great grandson, Charles Oakes, IV; brother, Harold; two nephews and one niece. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gloria Jean Nicholas Kennedy; sons, Timothy, Sr. of Arkansas, William ( Theresa) of Canal Fulton, Michael (Nancy) of Missouri; grandchildren, Amber (Jayson) Bodine of Missouri, Catherine (Charles) Oakes, III of Wadsworth, Alex Kennedy of Missouri, Scott, James and Amanda Kennedy of Texas, Timothy Kennedy, Jr. of Arkansas; great grandchildren, Marcus Oakes, Austin Bodine and Benjamin Kennedy; brothers, George (Donna) Kennedy of Randolph, Kenneth Kennedy of Manchester; sisters, Leona Phelps of Akron, Beatrice Carpenter of Summerton, Dorothy Kay (Glen) Slabaugh of Florida and Carol (Robert) Atkinson of Ilinois. nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family wishes to thank his nurses, Suzanne, Angela and Mary for their kind and loving care. Funeral Service FRIDAY 11 a.m. at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 E. Cherry St. (Rt. 93, Canal Fulton) with Rev. Glen Shedlock offiiciating and where friends may call Friday 10 a.m. until time of the services. Burial with Military Honors at Canal Fulton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a church or charity of your choice.
