Thomas J. Mayberry, 84, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013 after a long battle from a stroke, surrounded by his family who kept a vigil at his bedside. He was born in Clinton, Ohio on March 19, 1929 to the late Ira and Winifred Mayberry. He was a lifetime resident of Clinton. He was a lifetime member of St. George's Catholic Church, serving as an Eucharistic Minister and usher and was currently a member of St. Francis De Sales Church. Thomas was a mechanic and owned his own Texaco and Sohio service business for many years, along with a Gravely Tractor dealership. He had previously worked at Republic Steel, was the head mechanic at Northwest Schools for several years and retired as the Transportation Supervisor in 1994. Thomas was active in civic affairs serving as the Mayor of Clinton for 8 years and on Clinton Village Council. He also served on the Northwest School Board even after suffering his stroke. He was a tireless advocate for the school children and employees. He dearly loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and he loved the outdoors, hunting, cutting wood, being on his backhoe and tractor. He shared that love of the outdoors with his wife, children and grandkids. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eva and daughter, Rebecca and twin great granddaughters, Zoey and Chloe and sister-in-law, Dorothy Mayberry. He is survived by his wife Phyllis; mother-in-law, Linda Wilson; brother, Gregory Mayberry; daughters, Linda (Dr. Marwan) Adjan, Susan (Mark) Petersen and Janice Mayberry. He was a proud grandfather to 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Mass of the Christian Burial MONDAY, 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church, 4019 Manchester Road, Akron, 44319. Burial Clinton Cemetery. Visitation SUNDAY 2pm-5pm at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 E. Cherry St. (Rt.93, Canal Fulton). Memorials may be made to St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church.
