Vic was born in Clinton, Ohio, on January 21, 1930 to Zeffie and Nettie Fox. He left Canal Fulton High School in 1948 and joined the Marines. He was a Sergeant in the 1st Marine Division USMC 1948-1952. He was awarded several medals, Purple Heart, Bronze Star, National Defense, Presidential Unit Citation w/one star, Korean Service w/three stars, United Nations Service, Attached First Calvary, Infantry Combat Badge (Oct. 22 - 29, 1950), Kimpo Air Field (Sept. 20, 1950), and, if you can believe it, a Good Conduct Medal.
After he left the USMC, he worked in the sheet metal industry for C. R. Kurtz in Canal Fulton, R. B. Fox in Massillon and Wooster Sheet Metal in Akron. Vic was a member of Canton Baptist Temple, Canal Fulton VFW 9795 and The American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Fox, sisters Patricia Fisher, Jean Swisher and Evestine Tallman and brothers John, Wayne, Thomas and Raymond Fox and special buddy, Ray Hendershot.
Survivors include his wife Sandy, daughter Vicky Fox-Hall and sons Dale (Tammy) Fox and Beeba (Terry) Fox, brother Bob Fox and stepchildren Tracy (Drew) Casey, Steve (Julie) Wisard and Bob Wisard. Grandchildren are April Tomello, Amanda Thompson, Jamie Belty, Brandon, Mike, Ashley, and Samantha Fox, Zack and Cole Casey. Great grandchildren: Ryan Wiggins, Harper Thompson and Josie Fox. Vic also loved and considered as his unofficially adopted family, daughter Vickie Hendershot Branch, granddaughter and great grandson Lisa Hughes-Stephenson and her son Ryan Hall.
And last but not least, he is survived by his four marine buddies (same as brothers just not biological): Dick (Norma) Griffith, Boston, MA; Joe Shaffer, Berlin, NJ; Blackie (Betty) Blackburn, Pt. Charlotte, FL; and Ski (Jeanne) Zelinski, Scottsdale, AZ. Even though they did not live close, they had a reunion every two years. These marines had a very strong bond and a long history together. Funeral service THURSDAY 10:30 a.m. at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 E. Cherry St. (Rt.93, Canal Fulton), where friends may call WEDNESDAY from 5 to 8 p.m. Pastor Jake Tovissi will be officiating and burial with Military Honors by VFW #9795 at Canal Fulton Union Cemetery.
