Obituary

Virginia E. Paddock of Canal Fulton, Ohio died Sunday, October 20, 2024. She was born at home on September 29, 1928, in rural Tuscarawas County near Baertown, Ohio. She passed away at the Chapel Hill Community in Canal Fulton, Ohio, where she had been a resident since 2018. Virginia was born to Herbert and Edith Wiegand Spathe, joining her sister, Dorothy. Following her parents' divorce, Virginia welcomed stepfather Heber Patton into her life. She attended Strasburg Grade School, a one-room school, and graduated from Dover High School in 1946. She was also a graduate of Office Training School in Columbus. Virginia married Joseph E. Paddock in 1949 and celebrated 63 years of marriage before his death in 2012. She was mother to the late Amy (Allan) Boster, formerly of Medina, Ohio; Margo Paddock (Paul Osborne) of Woodinville, Washington, and Mark Paddock of Hubbard, Ohio. In addition to Margo and Mark, Virginia is survived by grandchildren Reid Boster, Alix Boster Feeney, Rachel Boster Hicken; Ian, Sophie, and Seth Paddock; Abby and Caroline Osborne; niece Nita Myers; and  great grandchildren Rilee Paddock; Gage, Maddie, and Emma Boster; Quinn Feeney; Piper Hicken, and two grandchildren on their way to join the family. Virginia worked as a secretary at Trinity United Church of Christ (UCC) in Tiffin, where the family lived from 1957 to 1974, and for the UCC NW Ohio Association. Following a move to the Massillon area, she was the business office manager at Chapel Hill for 15 years and was retired from Hennis Care Centre in Dover. She was an active member of Trinity UCC in Tiffin and, later, Grace UCC in Massillon. Virginia also belonged to the Massillon Women's Club and a local Red Hat Club. She was an accomplished seamstress, a marvelous baker, and a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend who warmly welcomed family and friends alike to her home. The word most often used to describe her was sweet. She had a kind word, a smile, and a joke for everyone. She made many friends wherever she went. A calling hour will be held on Thursday, October 24 at Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home (located at 624 E. Cherry Street in Canal Fulton) from Noon to 1:00 pm with the funeral service immediately following. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery in Strasburg, Ohio.
