We lost a brave, compassionate and loving heart with the passing of Walter L. Swigart, 86, on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 . Walt was born in Barberton, Ohio to the late Herman and Sarajane (Braucher) Swigart on May 31, 1926. He graduated from Manchester High School. Walt served in the U. S. Navy Air as a machinists mate during World War II and Korea. When he returned to civilian life, he worked at Firestone's Diversified Products Division. When they transferred to Noblesville, Ind., Walt went to work for Herman Bus Lines and continued driving for them part time after securing a job at East Ohio Gas Company (Dominion). He retired from EOG after 30 years service in 1983. Walt was a volunteer fireman for the Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Department as chief of the volunteers for many years. Walt and his wife, Millie, moved to Florida following his retirement and resided there for 23 years. They returned to Ohio in 2006 and settled in the Magnolia area. He was a loving husband and father and grandfather to his step family. Walt and Millie celebrated 35 years together Nov. 6, 2011. He was preceded in death by his father, mother & infant son, and sister, Portia (Bob) Wince. He is survived by his wife, Millie; sister, Velma (Bud) Greenawalt ; stepdaughter, Yvonne Barnett; stepson, Billy J. (Carla) Barnett; granddaughters Shelly (Wade) Davis, Lynne Holmes, Dawn (Chuck) Wingerter, and Melissa Holmes; grandsons Billy J. Barnett, III and John Barnett and many nieces and nephews. Walt was a member of the Mineral City American Legion and the East Sparta Church of Christ. Funeral Service FRIDAY, 12 Noon at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 East Cherry Street (Rt. 93, Canal Fulton) Burial with Military Honors at Manchester Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 11 a.m. until time of services.
