William H. Engel, 82 of Canal Fulton, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2025. He was born February 18, 1942 in Bronx, NY to the late Robert and Kate (Eells) Engel and grew up in Ridgewood, NJ. It is here that his lifelong love of trains began. The Ho-Ho-Kus Train Station was behind his childhood home. Bill graduated from Ridgewood High School in 1960 and then went on to graduate from Gettysburg College in 1969. While at Gettysburg College, Bill played the trumpet in the marching band and was in ROTC.

After college, Bill completed two years of active duty in the US Army and spent thirteen months in Korea. Bill returned home to New Jersey and went to work for UPS. He then went on to work for the Chicago Mill and Lumber Co. as a sales rep which gave him the opportunity to travel extensively. Bill continued to enjoy traveling even after retirement.

Bill met his future wife Sandy, in 1991 in the dining car of a train trip to Florida. After a year and a half of courtship they married in 1992. They continued to enjoy train travel together in the US, Canada and Europe.

Along with train traveling Bill loved building model trains.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Sandra (Stanley) Engel.

Funeral Services will be held THURSDAY, January 30, 2025, 1:30pm at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 Cherry St. E. (Rt. 93) Canal Fulton. Visitation ONE HOUR PRIOR to service time at the funeral home. Bill will be laid to rest at Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati, OH.
