Barbara Ann (Plisko) Leugers

Barbara Ann Leugers (nee Plisko), age 83, passed away on January 11, 2021 with her family at her side.  Her smile and her fighting spirit will be deeply missed by all who loved her.  Originally from Lakewood, Ohio, Barbara graduated from Lakewood High School in 1954.  Afterwards, she attended nursing school at St. John’s Hospital, where she became a registered nurse.  She served in the United States Air Force in Germany, Maine, and Virginia Beach and was honorably discharged as a captain.  A lifelong Catholic and proud Slovak, she was an active member of Sts. Philip and James Catholic Church.  Barbara loved to shop, go to garage sales and Amish country with her sisters, get together with friends, and share her swimming pool with family and friends.  She is survived by her daughters, Sara (Rick) Hagey of Doylestown and Katti (Joe) Simkanin of Rootstown, grandchildren Hannah and Natalie Hagey and Isaac, Charlotte, and Vivian Simkanin, sister Becky (Bob) Steve of Lakewood, sister Evelyn Commisso of Cleveland, brother Thomas (Pat) Plisko of Cleveland, and half sister Jean Benesch of Parma Heights, as well as many dearly loved nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends.  Calling hours will be held Sunday, January 17th from 2-4 pm at Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home in Canal Fulton.  Funeral mass will be held Monday, January 18th at 10 am at Sts. Philip and James Catholic Church in Canal Fulton with Fr. Kevin McCaffrey officiating.  Burial will follow immediately at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron.  The family wishes to thank Mercy Hospice for their exemplary care and support, as well as Barbara’s church family at Sts. Philip and James.  Flowers are welcome, or memorial donations may be made to Mercy Hospice.
