Glenna M. Benton, 91, of Manchester, passed away on August 22, 2023. She was born December 29, 1931 in Greensburg, Ohio to the late Cletus and Beulah Hartong. Glenna married Richard "Dick" Benton in 1953 and together they opened Flowers by Dick in 1954. She worked closely by his side to establish a successful floral business. Following Dick's passing in 1990, Glenna remained an integral part of the business as it continued to expand. Throughout Glenna’s 91 years she lived within a mile of where she was born. Glenna was born in a home located in what is now Nimisila Reservoir. As the reservoir continued to be developed, homeowners were given two choices: vacate their home or move it, her parents chose to move the house. The location of the house was a daily surprise for Glenna and her siblings when they came home from school as the house was being rolled on logs up West Nimisila hill to its current location. Throughout her life she moved two more times, each time literally yards away from the homestead. Her grandparents were original property owners in Manchester, with Myers Road being named after them. Glenna was a Manchesterite through and through, always proud to call it home. Upon her retirement Glenna had more time to devote to her beloved family and friends. She also enjoyed her home and working to make her yard beautiful. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Richard Benton; brother, Dean and sister-in-law, Dorene Hartong and brother-in-law, Wayne Robinson. Glenna is survived by her daughter, Teri Hyre (James Bonifer); son, Brian (Tami) Benton; grandchildren, Shannon (Scott) Jackovitch and Brandon Benton; great-grandchildren, Josey, Jordan, Brody, Belle and Dominic; sister, Annabel Robinson; many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Pleasant Pointe, Pleasant View and Elara Caring Hospice. “Thanks a Million” Funeral Services will be held SATURDAY, August 26, 2023, 11:00am at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 Cherry Street East (Route 93) Canal Fulton. Burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation Friday, 6pm to 8pm at the funeral home and also one hour prior to service time.
