Helen E. “Betty” Ayres’s body died and spirit was set free in The Arms of Jesus Christ on 01/22/21. She passed quietly with her children by her side. We praise The One Triune God for the gift of a mother/grandmother who believed and never let go of her faith. She never stopped praying for her family, even when we were wayward. We are forever changed by who Christ was in her-that is a priceless legacy. Born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Robert H. & Ellen E. (Kiernan) Poggenburg; she had spent her adult life in Northeast Ohio. She was a member of St John’s Lutheran Church, Canal Fulton, OH and dear friend to Trinity Lutheran Church in Clinton, OH. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Earnest O. Ayres. From their marriage they had 5 children; Elizabeth “Liz” (Tim) Ayres Thoren of Racine, OH; Margaret (Steve) Porter of Canal Fulton, OH; Barbara (Randy) Rohr of Canal Fulton, OH; Robert (Susan) Ayres of Laurens, SC and Ann (Carlton) Dingler of Canal Fulton, OH; 13 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren with 2 more expected in 2021 and several furbearing grandkids. She is also survived by her many beloved cousins/nieces/nephews and “greats”. She was preceded in death by her sister Gay Hicks and brother Robert E. Poggenburg.
