James Robert Stansbury, 93, Jackson Township, died peacefully from Alzheimer’s on April 3, 2021. He was surrounded with family, friends, and caring hospice workers whose efforts are deeply appreciated.
James, son of William and Mary (James) Stansbury, was born in Akron, Ohio. He served as a USN Seaman on the USS Kingsbury at the end of WWII. He earned a BA in Psychology from the University of Akron. He served as a Fire Captain and union officer for the Akron Fire Department. He was a member of Trinity UCC and where he and his wife served as Missions volunteers.
Jim took his greatest delight in jazz, and had an encyclopedic knowledge on the subject. Jim and Carol were also world travelers.
Jim is survived by his wife Carol, their daughters Laura Lyn, Akron, Lisa Stansbury Morgan (Tom), Alexandria, VA, Linda Dies, Cuyahoga Falls, Jim's son Evan Stansbury, Cape Town, South Africa, and four grandchildren. Though Jim and Carol Stansbury were both only children, Diane and Bob Oliger are honorary family members and aunt and uncle to the Stansbury girls. During this difficult time friends Rick and Joan Camp have been of tireless assistance and emotional support.
A memorial service is planned for June 26, 2021 at Trinity United Church of Christ, Canal Fulton.
