Karen Frances Smith, born July 25, 1960 to Russell and Helen Koppes. She passed away from complications of guillain-barre on Tuesday August 1, 2023.
She was a devoted wife to Tom for 34 years, and even though they had their differences, they love each other dearly at the end of the day. They started going on trips recently since the girls were grown and have visited Gatlinburg, Tennessee and Cancun, Mexico. They recently purchased a pontoon and she was brave enough to go out a few times this summer and even drove it once. She planned to go on the boat with Tom on weekends when she wasn’t working and spend quality time together.
She was a loving mother and grandmother to Claire and Cecelia whom she loved so very much and spoiled with all the toys. She recently spent a whole week watching them which she absolutely loved, but definitely needed a nap after.
She was a registered Radiologic tech for over 30 years and worked in various hospitals. Most recently, Twin City Hospital in Dennison. She also worked at Wooster Orthopedics and Dunlap hospital where she made lifelong friends.
Karen always brought laughter and her laugh brought even more. She was never afraid to let you know her opinion or how she felt about a subject, whether you wanted to hear it or not. She loved to knit and crochet during her free time and was an avid mobile gamer. She tried to teach her daughters how to knit and crochet like her mother did with her.
She is survived by her husband Thomas, two daughters Hannah (Niko) Dimos, and Amanda Smith, brothers James and John Koppes, and sister Judy Koppes, and two granddaughters, Claire and Cecelia Dimos. She was preceded in death by her father Russell, mother Helen, sister Jane, and brother Dorn.
A Memorial Service will be held MONDAY, August 7, 2023, 7:00pm at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 Cherry St. E. (Rt. 93) Canal Fulton, Fr. Thomas Cebula officiating. Visitation ONE HOUR PRIOR to service time at the funeral home.
