Raymond George Patchen, age 82, passed away on Saturday, August 22nd surrounded by his family. Ray was born in Robins, Ohio in 1938. Raymond spent 4 years in service to his country in the Navy where he earned the nickname “Water King” for his expertise in the desalinization process. After his enlistment, he met the love of his life, Barbara Anne Herip and married in 1960.
Ray is survived by his wife of 60 years and his sister, Martha Benjamin (nee Patchen), and 4 children, Deborah Dezember (Garnett) of Powell; Susan Patchen of Avon Lake; Jennifer McCall (Brian) of Canal Fulton; and Sandra Freeman (Chris) of Copley. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren: Mike, Kurtis, Daniel, Steven, Craig, Laura, Jonathan, William and Samuel. He is preceded in death by his parents Peter and Ann Patchen and his sister Norene DeAmon (nee Patchen).
An avid lover of the water, Ray enjoyed boating, fishing, and simply being near the water. One of his greatest loves, besides Barbie, was his second home on Tappan Lake. It was here that he most enjoyed early morning coffee chats with family while watching the sun rise over the lake. His earlier years were spent restoring antique automobiles including a Model A and his bright red 1948 Plymouth. But, his greatest love of all was his family.
A private service will be held for family only.
