Charles (Chuck) Robert Ausherman passed away November 10th, 2021. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Rieneke Elizabeth Ausherman nee VanderGoot.
He leaves four children, Maria Ausherman (Steven Taylor) in Stuyvesant, NY, Judy Ausherman (Sharon), Chagrin Falls, OH, Charles Ausherman (Nancy), Greenville, NC and Stephen Ausherman (Betsy Dranttel), Albuquerque, New Mexico; four grandchildren, Chloe Chapman (Adam Bradford), and Lydia Chapman (Matt Decker), in Los Angeles, CA and Rieneke Hannah and Charles Noah Ausherman in Greenville, NC, and one great-granddaughter Emma-Jane Decker in Los Angeles, CA.
He was born on April 30, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois, son of Elizabeth Carrie Cronquist and Raymond George Ausherman. He was predeceased by three sisters, Mae, Lillian and LaRae and one brother, George.
He married Maria Isabel Lima of St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands in 1956. Maria died in 1964.
Chuck, as he was called by his many friends was a graduate of Central College, Pella, Iowa and New Brunswick Theological Seminary, New Brunswick, NJ.
He received his MSPH and PhD from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
Chuck served as associate director of Taiwan Christian Service for four years and as director of the Planned Parenthood Program at Church World Service NYC.
He was a pastor in churches in New York City, New Jersey, St. Thomas Virgin Islands and minister to students at the Inter American University in San German, Puerto Rico.
He served as director of Christian Social Action for the NJ Council of Churches which brought him to the Selma March and to the March on Washington to hear Dr. Martin Luther King's "I have a Dream" speech.
He founded the Institute for Development Training in 1980 in Chapel Hill, NC which sponsored Women's Health training programs in several countries in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East until 2000.
He served as a contractor for USAID in Burma, Egypt, Swaziland, Indonesia, and the Philippines, and for the World Health Organization in China.
He was a member of UCC Bath Church where he sang in the Chancel Choir, and was an active member of the Akron Area Interfaith Council.
A Memorial Service will be held SATURDAY, December 11, 2021, 2:00pm at Bath Church UCC, 3980 W Bath Rd, Akron, OH with Pastor Brenda Waddell officiating.
