Roland C. Lindsay, 87, lifelong resident of Jackson Township/Canal Fulton, Ohio passed away on August 13, 2020. He was an entrepreneur and the retired owner/operator of Lindsay Precast Inc.
He was born to Roy and Rose (Landefeld) Lindsay on December 28, 1932 and graduated from Canal Fulton High School. A veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Army, Roland returned to start Lindsay Excavating and Concrete Products Company, purchasing his first backhoe and using a hand concrete mixer in the garage to produce his first products.
Roland married Linda (Gesaman) Lindsay in 1959. They grew their family with three children, Melanie, Roland Jr. (Ron) and Heather and worked together, with the support of many, to build Lindsay Precast into a respected and successful leader in the industry. Roland was a founding member and served as the chairman of the National Precast Concrete Association in 1988, working for advancement and building relationships among producers to support growth and success for many. Lindsay Precast Inc. currently has operations in Ohio, Florida, Colorado, North Carolina and South Carolina and many employees remember Roland with respect and admiration.
When he wasn’t working hard at the plant Roland enjoyed fishing with Glen and the guys in Canada, visiting the Florida beach and gator rides around the farm with his grandchildren. A longtime member of the Canal Fulton Rotary Club, Roland served as club president and enjoyed friendship and camaraderie with members during Thursday dinner meetings, serving BBQ chicken and building the canal boat. He is a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Canal Fulton and served in leadership there.
In recent years Roland has enjoyed time visiting with friends and family and watching wild birds. He also loved his furry friends, especially Rufus, Zeke and Rosco. His Saturday Lawrence Welk shows were not to be missed and if ice cream or a ride in Skip’s Corvette were involved in an outing he was ready to go.
Roland is survived by his wife of 60 years Linda (Gesaman) Lindsay and children Melanie (Randy) Lindsay-Brisbin, Roland (Sonya) Lindsay Jr. and Heather (Michael) Hoffman. He was the proud grandpa of Jenna (Jacob) Mathews, Luke (Taylor) Brisbin, Sarah and Sam Lindsay, Grace, Alex and Ellie Hoffman. He is also survived by his sister Delores (Lindsay) Schweitzer and many beloved brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings Henry (Maxine) Lindsay, Clifford (Shirley) Lindsay and Helen (Bernard) Shoemaker and Dale Schweitzer, brother-in –law.
