Thelma Imogene Stitz went home to be with the Lord on March 10, 2021. She passed at home under the care of the family and Mercy Hospice. Born to the late Vernon and Audrey Hockenberry on Aug. 12, 1925 in Byesville, Ohio. Preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Russell Hockenberry and Charles Hockenberry; and sister, Evelyn Gearhart. She also has one surviving sister, Marjorie Gortney. Thelma is survived by her loving husband of 76 years, Pastor George Stitz. They worked side by side in many jobs. George was called to the ministry where Thelma was also instrumental in building their lives as servants of God at Canal Fulton Baptist Church for 33 1/2 years. Thelma loved playing jokes on people; for example, making frosted styrofoam birthday cakes and handing out empty gum wrappers. She also loved her little dog, Foxy Lady AKA Bubbers. She is also survived by daughters, Cindy (John) McCaulley; Sherry (John) Ackerman and Fawn Silket; 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held SATURDAY, 11:00 am at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 Cherry St. E. (Rt. 93) Canal Fulton. Burial at Canal Fulton Cemetery. Calling Hours Friday, 5:00pm to 7:00pm and one hour prior to service time all at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family.
